Robin Hart-Poindexter
KINDERGARTEN TEACHER
Robin has dedicated over 20 years of her life to cultivating and shaping her natural talents for working with children, beginning with the births of her daughters, Jasmine Yobeth (a recent graduate of UC Santa Barbara) and Summer Rose (a student at UC Irvine). When Jasmine began attending kindergarten, Robin assumed an active role in the classroom, serving as Room Parent and participating daily. She discovered that she was passionate not only about educating her own children, but sharing her wisdom and emerging teaching methods with each eager young mind she came across. Robin holds a B.A. in dance from Pitzer College and teaching credentials from California State University in Hayward. She has also studied ancient art and architecture in Italy, Greece and Egypt. She believes the arts are an essential part of early education, and continues to draw upon her experience as an artist in teaching the core curriculum. She has been an instructor of modern and jazz dance at the East Bay Center for Performing Arts, and at El Cerrito and Richmond High Schools, a choreographer/instructor for the California Junior Miss scholarship programs, and a judge for New York, Utah and California state dance programs.
She began her career as an elementary school teacher at Prospect Sierra Elementary School, where she taught for nine years in kindergarten, first and third grade classrooms. As a kindergarten teacher at Coronado Elementary, a public school in Richmond, she helped English Language Learners and many underprivileged children successfully navigate their first year of school. She considers it her special calling to teach kindergarteners: “There is true magic in watching the faces of kindergartners light up with delight at each new experience or accomplishment! There is a purity of spirit that is beautiful to see!”
Robin credits her parent for instilling in her the importance of education; she has done the same for her own children, and will continue to do so for each new child and family she meets. Her warm, nurturing teaching style proved to be an instant match for Crestmont’s supportive community.
