Neverland Comes to Crestmont
Posted by sashworth • May 27th, 2010The crafty crocodile, dastardly Captain Hook and precocious Tinker Bell arrived at Crestmont on the evening of May 21 when the Crestmont 4th/5th grade class performed the children’s classic “Peter Pan.” As evening fell on the Crestmont campus, Peter climbed through the nursery window to fly Wendy, John and Michael off to Neverland to rescue Tiger Lily, meet the Lost Boys, and duel with Hook and Smee aboard a real pirate ship (built by hand by Crestmont parents) – all under the direction of 4th/5th grade teacher Patrick Moore.

Crestmont Chronicles
Posted by celkovich • Feb 12th, 2010Welcome to Crestmont Chronicles… a cyber peek into our amazing days at Crestmont.
All School Events
Partner Pals : Partner Pals is a fun tradition in which each student meets with a buddy who is older or younger than him/herself. Partner Pals also get to work with teachers from the other grades! So far, we have spent time reading with our buddies and we have spent art time creating a Winter Wonderland collage to celebrate the Snow Trip. Check out the board over the sink in the Day Care Room to see the finished piece! (Thanks Barbara for putting it all together) :)
Jump Rope for Heart: We all jumped rope together on February 1st, for 10 minutes to join the team of 80,000 people in California striving to make the Guiness Book of World Records for the most people jumping at the same time. It was so invigorating….why don’t we do that together every Monday morning? :)
School Spirit Days: Crazy Hat Day and Fancy Dress Day
The First Grade class has begun a spirited movement at Crestmont….choosing fun ways to express our community spirit by all dressing up according to a special theme. So far, we’ve enjoyed Crazy Hat Day (see pic below) and Fancy Dress Day! Next theme……..to be announced soon!
Talent Show: What a day full of smiles and applause! It was obvious all of the dedication and heart the performers put into their acts as they shared their talents ranging from singing to magic shows, originally written skits and hula hooping, dancing and telling jokes! The fifth graders did a tremendous job in organizing the show! We all enjoyed it so much.
Valentines Day: In a whole school circle, we shared our class Valentines with one another, class to class. The love and creativity in our Valentines were contagious! Some classes recited original poems for each grade. Please see pics attached!
Upcoming Whole School Field trip: Academy of Sciences (Feb. 24th) We will be enjoying an entire day at the Academy of Sciences, as each class will explore exhibits relevant to their studies.
Class Projects and News
In Kindergarten right now, we are hand sewing huge heart shaped pillows. They have been serious about sewing, and have learned to do some pretty neat stitches! Each child has become a member of the “I Poked My Finger” club!
In First Grade, students began the year studying biographies of famous people. As a follow up exploration, the first graders went to Muir Beach and the John Muir house on a field trip this week. They also have been writing incredible Valentine’s Day poetry for all of the other classes.
In Second and Third grade, we have been studying the Coral Reef. We spent a day creating a three dimensional sculpture of a coral reef, and we “swim” around it each day in our classroom! We have been researching the many diverse and intriguing creatures of the sea and we will continue to learn how we can help preserve this amazing part of our natural world. Our last field trip to the Bay Area Model taught us about the waters which surround us each day.
The 4/5 five class is launching into a science unit on plants and flowers. They are thinking like scientists; observing, recording, categorizing and questioning. They are planning a trip to the botanical gardens and a close look at the swamp exhibit and roof top garden when they visit the academy of science in San Francisco. They will also be looking at artists like Georgia O’Keefe. If there is anyone out there with flower arranging experience they would like to know. We are choosing our play and starting rehearsal in March. We are looking at and researching National Parks.
Giving Thanks:
A warm thank you for the spectacular staff lunches provided by the 2/3 and 4/5 parents. So Yummy!!! It makes our day truly special.
To all of the parents who are taking care of the students, each day, at recess and lunch!!!!
Student Quote:

Congratulations, graduates
Posted by Alan • Jun 12th, 2009Yesterday I was reflecting on Wednesday’s beautiful graduation event for our 5th graders. I guess I’ve been at the school long enough that it didn’t surprise me anymore, but I realized how special it is that each and every child in our graduating class stood in front of the rest of the school, parents, and guests, and delivered a unique speech of their own creation, celebrating their time at Crestmont. I mean, in high school you’ll probably get one or two out of a hundred. These young people are eloquent and fearless, just as Patrick said. Congratulations to you all!
