Theresa Rogers and Camille King
Participation Chairs
The Participation Chairs are responsible for organizing and educating the parent participators so they are ready to assume leadership roles in the classroom and on the playground. Through daily de-briefs and monthly meetings, parents form a team which helps ensure the emotional and physical safety of the children at Crestmont.
Theresa Rogers brings her knowledge of classroom management and the “attachment instinct,” based on John Bowlby, to her role as co-chair. A former high school English teacher, Theresa has used these skills to work successfully with all manner of students, including gang members and other sometimes tough-to-reach youth. She has had leadership roles relating to participation in several schools and is happy to find herself back in the mix at Crestmont. She is currently a writer, editor, office manager, and transcriber and so also brings the organizational skills required to stay sane to her post.
Camille King organizes the parent participators by scheduling their participation shifts in the classroom and on the playground. Additionally, she assists parents in finding substitute participators as needed. In coordination with the teachers, Camille maintains the daily task lists for participating parents and ensures that all participating parents complete their training and fulfill their participation obligations. She supports her co-chair, Theresa Rogers, in the monthly participation meetings. Outside of Crestmont, she is a family law attorney and mediator, as well as a volunteer at Seeds, a community dispute resolution center.
