CRESTMONT ALUMNI NEWS, Winter 2010
Note: This is the same Alumni News from the latest newsletter, but with 2 bonus pictures.
I recently caught up with two former Crestmont teachers and three students.
After 10 years of public school teaching from Watts to Piedmont, Camille Zulpo had a 20 year career at Crestmont. Since retiring, she now enjoys spending time with friends taking walks, going to cultural events and museums, spending time in nature, and just hanging out over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
She is now very active in her Point Richmond studio. Children attend her art classes twice a week. The students come from Crestmont as well as from the Point Richmond community. She also does her own painting twice a week and loves the time she spends with her granddaughter, Romy. If you are interested in learning more about her art classes or if you want to get in touch with her, she can be contacted at CZ410@aol.com .
Camille with Baby Romy
Speaking of Camille’s granddaughter, her parents were both students at Crestmont during the 80’s. Camille’s daughter, Monet Zulpo-Dane, and Nick Powers are the parents of Romy, now a year old. Nick is the son of Andy Jarvis, another teacher here. As if there weren’t enough connections, David Wharton presided over their marriage ceremony a few years ago. They have great memories of their times at Crestmont. Let’s hope they take an enrollment tour when Romy is ready for school.
I corresponded with Susan Weiner recently. After teaching for several years here, she is now working in the psychology department at JFK University as Field Placement Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty. She is also a certified yoga instructor, teaching an adult yoga class Sunday mornings at the Albany Y. Anyone over 13 years old can drop in. She loves staying in touch with former students and families and looks forward to coming to school events. You can find her on Facebook by searching for Susan Andrea Weiner.
Amena Hajjar Wilcox, a student at Crestmont from 1974 to 1978, remembers her time at the school fondly. Her father helped install the tires on the playground. I was happy to tell her they are still on the grounds. She is the founder and currently teaches art at her Children’s Art Studio in Vallejo, Studio Scribble. For more information you can visit her web site at www.studioscribble.com.
